The name URUREPO was gifted to the development by mana whenua, Ngāi Tūāhuriri.
Meaning 'west of the swamplands’, Ururepo refers to Prebbleton’s location west of the wetlands that once occurred amongst the upper tributaries, or headwaters, of the Halswell River. This area was a part of the greater network of wetlands that occupied much of Ōtautahi Christchurch and were crucial and treasured mahinga kai (food-gathering) sites for Ngāi Tūāhuriri.
